Mathematics is an essential skill, but data does not speak by itself

Op-ed co-authored with Fabiana de Menezes Soares published in the “Tendências e Debates” section of Folha de S. Paulo, on Nov 26, 2024 (in Portuguese).

Our op-ed is a dialogue with a column published by Marcelo Viana regarding the importance of mathematics in addressing central contemporary issues. Drawing from the case of redistricting, we discuss how, tough an essential tool, mathematics on its own is incapable of resolving issues of justice, among others.
